Hemitheconyx caudicinctus
The African fat-tailed gecko is from the subfamily Eublepharinae. Members of this subfamily include the leopard gecko of south Central Asia, India, and Pakistan. This subfamily has clearly different characteristics from other geckos. Tey are terrestrial and crepuscular, and have moveable eyelids, vertical pupils, and no adhesive lamellae (sticky feet).

BIOME: Dry, semi-arid Savannah grasslands and the outskirts of dry forests.
BEHAVIOR: Crespecular / Nocturnal. This species of gecko is relatively shy, and only ventures out from their burrow in search of food and water. Their tendency of preferring to stay hidden within their burrows correlates heavily with their need of slightly higher humidity than other Eublepharid geckos.
DIET: Insectivorous. African Fat-tails primary source of food comes from insects they hunt. These guys aren't incredibly quick or agile, however will lie in wait to ambush insects or search for slower moving prey. In captivity, African Fat-tails can do well on a variety of different commercially raised feeders such as House Crickets, smaller species of Roaches, Mealworms and Superworms.
